Grand Canyon Mystery and Legend

There is a Grand Canyon mystery story about some caves found back in 1909. These caves were said to contain Egyptian artifacts. The only evidence that appears to exist is a newspaper story from the Phoenix Gazette. See link below.

The other stories on this page are various Indian legends featuring the Grand Canyon. The Havasupai people live inside the Grand Canyon. Their creation legend tells Of the Formation of the Canyon and their place in it.

The Hualapai also have a Canyon creation legend. After a big flood, Pack-i-tha-a-wi drove a knife into the ground to form the canyon.

The Hopi legend listed below isn't about how the Canyon was formed. It's about a young man's search for the destination of the water of the Colorado River.

People die and disappear in the Grand Canyon every year. This page will also include modern disappearances and other interesting historical stories at a later date. Have you ever heard the story of the lost Zuni Gold? Stay tuned.
