Grand Canyon Sunrise View

Experiencing a Grand Canyon sunrise view is the breathtaking experience of a lifetime and gives the start of a new day a whole new meaning forever.

The magnificent sunrises at the Grand Canyon begin as early as 5 in the morning so be prepared to rise early to catch the moment. The colors, formations and depths of the Grand Canyon unfold in majestic shades of yellow, orange and red as the sun rises over the horizon.

The majority of view points to watch sunrises at the Grand Canyon are on promontories that jut out from the rim for greater visibility with minimal obstructions. Most people see a Grand Canyon sunrise view from the South Rim because it is most accessible and can be reached via the free National Park Service Shuttle Buses. View points are situated along the West or East Rim Drives on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. All these areas offer incredible opportunities to experience an unforgettable Grand Canyon sunrise view. With accessibility in mind, the two main observation points are located on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.

The most frequently visited observation point is Mather Point where visitors can see the "postcard" view of the Grand Canyon. During the early morning and late evening, the colors of the Canyon are extremely distinctive and you can see amazing natural rock formations clearly. Since all the tour buses stop at Mather Point it can be busy, but it's worth finding a spot in the crowd to experience the magnificent sunrise.

The other point often visited on the South Rim is Yavapai Observation Station where people can appreciate an immense view of the Grand Canyon. With several spotting scopes for looking at the interior of the Grand Canyon, Yavapai Observation Station offers a view down to the Colorado River. After enjoying unique views at the Yavapai Observation Station, visitors can take advantage of the informational displays and Grand Canyon Association bookstore at this location.

Any visit to this famous rock formation should include a special trip to experience a majestic, memorable Grand Canyon sunrise view.
